From received

A real four-step path for 3D creators, developers, and spatial teams who need to review a delivery file away from the desktop.

Why preflight

An extension is a clue.
The file is the evidence.

Instead of trusting the extension and attempting a full load, Boreal Splat reads the smallest useful truth first. A difficult, mislabeled, or unusually heavy file should fail with useful context—not after an unexplained wait or risky allocation.

  1. 01
    Read the smallest truth

Check the header, version, schema, element count, property types, and offsets.

  2. 02
    Estimate the device load

Plan CPU and GPU resources before buffers scale with every Gaussian.

  3. 03
    Open—or stop clearly

Proceed with an explicit plan, adapt display quality, or preserve the source and explain why.

Formats & privacy

Three familiar endings.
One careful opening path.

Boreal Splat validates the contents before loading. Support for an extension never means every schema carrying it is compatible.

01 .PLY 3D Gaussian Splat PLY

Common 3DGS schemas are the validation target. Ordinary point-cloud PLY files are identified separately.

02 .SPZ Niantic SPZ

SPZ versions 1–4 are in the validation scope, with explicit version and file-integrity checks.

03 .SPLAT Packed splat files

Known packed layouts are checked before decode; malformed lengths or unsupported layouts are rejected clearly.

Scope note

Current paths cover common 3DGS PLY schemas, SPZ versions 1–4, and known .splat layouts. The app does not claim universal compatibility.
